Our Training
The Women in the Word team provides practical training for ministry leadership, as well as training in expositional Bible study tools and convictions.
We are committed to workshop style instruction and accessible mentorship, because we desire to build relationships along the way! To this end, we organize in-person events and on-line cohorts.

Women in the Word Workshop
Our first Women in the Word Workshop was held in Vancouver, British Columbia in January 2018. Since then, it has been hosted annually at different churches throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, and it has drawn participants from the local area, Vancouver Island, the interior of BC, and northern Washington.
The Women in the Word Workshop focuses on training a small number of existing or prospective leaders from representative churches. We set a maximum attendance of approximately 110 women (roughly 25 different churches), because we seek to equip women who can return back to their communities and pass on the skills and convictions they have learned.
This workshop is generally a one-and-a-half day event, with optional sessions prior to the official start time.
Online Cohorts
In Fall and in Spring, we host on-line cohorts to expand on, and consolidate, the training that people receive at our workshops. These cohorts generally run for several weeks at a time, and each cohort has a specific purpose. See Upcoming Events page for current offerings.
A Short Guide to Women’s Ministry
Many women have the desire to begin ministry for women at their church, but don’t know where to start, how to choose and train leaders, how to set vision, or how to work alongside their pastoral team. Participants in this cohort read and discuss chapters from a book entitled A Short Guide to Women’s Ministry, and also work through a series of materials used at our local churches. If you want to start a ministry from scratch, or re-design or tweak something that is already running, consider joining this cohort!
Practicing Expositional Tools
At our workshop, we teach participants a variety of practical Bible study skills and convictions, but we know that for skills to be learned they need to be practiced! The Practicing Expositional Tools cohorts will provide participants with opportunities to work on a different Biblical text on their own, and then come together weekly to share findings and to ask questions. If you want practice and feedback as you work through Biblical texts, consider joining this cohort!
Applying Tools in other Ministry Settings
We exist to equip and support women to lead word-based ministries in their local churches and, while women feel called to minister to other women, others are passionate about equipping children, youth or young adults. If you are serving in an age based ministry, we want to help you consider how you might tailor and translate the tools and convictions taught at our workshop to your audience. Several of our team members and associates have experience in this area, and would love to brainstorm with you.
